The virus that never ends…

A childhood song repeatedly plays in the background while my daughter sings along and plays her video games. Much like a movie, I sit in despair of the events that have transpired over the past year. The eerily repeating verse continues, and I can’t help but make the connection between this annoying song and its relation to our current situation.

Of course, I’m talking about The Song That Never Ends, much like the Coronavirus and its relentless continuation despite those that take all precautions. The truth is, unless we all take this seriously, this song will keep going. We need to all take precautions, just like I need to take this music player away from my daughter before I lose my mind.

When I was an RN in the hospital years ago, there was an outbreak of Ebola. We were prepared to face this evil that lurked in the world. We had training, protocols, and not one indication that there would be any lack of supply at the ready. If you don’t know what Ebola is, I implore you to read about it here. The seriousness of Ebola and my potential contact with it was devastating. In reflection, it’s also what gives me a great puzzle about how our current pandemic got so out of control.

We can’t just jump into a Delorian and try to fix this. We need to move forward and start doing the right thing. I’m getting tired of listening to this song over and over again. Now, despite our efforts, it has hit us too. It proves it only takes one person to be negligent to affect several.

I hope anyone out there that may be a naysayer thinks about this song and how annoying it is. I hope they understand the implications of their actions and that it takes more than one person to shut this thing up. Please be safe and make life safe for the rest of us.
