A poem
It’s a cool night
The stars are apparent in the sky.
I can hear the faint howls of the traffic on the highway.
It’s colder than normal.
The cigarette hisses as I take another drag
Small pieces of my memory unveil
There’s danger ahead of me.
No one else can see it; I can feel it.
With every cold wind that rushes around me
My soul burns away like the flickering ash.
It becomes quiet
Only my thoughts to keep me company
I’m not steady on my feet, but I have to pretend to be
Who else will hold these burdens and continue for me?
I feel sick
Time just ticks
Closer to the inevitable.
